  14. Do I need to cook the pasta prior to putting it in the crockpot? Or will it cook while it is in the crockpot?

  15. The ingredients list says "dry spaghetti, cooked." I assume you are supposed to cook the spaghetti first. That means this crock pot meal really isn't one because you would have just as much mess as if you just mixed it together and cooked it on the stove top. Oh, well. A busy mom can dream...

    1. Hey, I for times sake cook all my "dry" ingredients and put them I the freezer. Pasta, quinoa, barley, rice... whatever takes a long time, energy and dishes. That way, when I find recipes like this, I am ahead. Just a thought from one busy mom to another! Best wishes.

  16. I imagine you could either cook for just a few minutes on stove top, al-dente just to help get it started...OR add liquid (2cups of chicken broth) and put the noodles in the crock pot dry.

I used the first method, due to time constraints while at church.

I'm sure the second method would work as well, and increase the crockpot time a bit.

I put my lasagne together w/o cooking the noodles first, and just increase the amount of liquid in the sauce.

  17. It seems to me that one should be able to put the chicken and soup in first, upping the total cook time to 4-6 hours or thereabouts. Put the rest in after a couple of hours, add some water so the pasta will get cooked, and it will PROBABLY be good to go. I will have to try it this way to be sure, though.

  23. So I'm unclear on the pasta. On pinterest it says you don't have to cook the pasta but the recipe calls for cooked pasta. So which is it?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Im also unclear about the pasta. Its a pretty vague recipe, cooked uncooked, if cooked wouldn't noodles get mushy and gross? Long time to Crockpot a meal with prior cooked pasta..

  25. I made this today and I put the noodles in UNCOOKED and they cooked good in it (I kinda overcooked them, so it turned out a little mushy for me)

  26. Kbarber, did you change the recipe at all? Increase cooking time?
    Thanks!

  27. Can anyone tell me what size of soup cans to use? How many ounces of each?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Can someone tell me what size tomatoes to use. Small or large can??? Really want to try to make this but dont want to add too much diced tomatoes

    ReplyDelete
  29. I used regular size of soup can. Just like the Campbell's brand. Not sure how many ozs.

Also I bough the petite tomatoes in the regular size can. It's like the middle size I think?

This makes a LOT of food. I wouldn't cook the noodles completely as mine were soggy a bit.

  30. There have been some comments about whether to cook the noodles or not, here is what I did...
I put everything except for the noodles in the crockpot in low for 2.5 hours (when I needed to leave). Then I put the uncooked pasta in and left it in for another 3 hours. It did cook the noodles but a lot of them were stuck together and didn't cook properly. If I make this again I will make sure I'll be home to stir a few times while cooking. I thought I had done an adequate job stirring the uncooked noodles in but apparently not.

Did make a lot of food!

  31. This recipe is awesome, but I did make a few changes, instead of using regular pasta, I used weath pasta, weath pasta doesn't get as mushy as the regular pasta. I precooked the pasta for about 5 minutes, then about 20 minutes before the meal was done I added the pasta to the crockpot, the pasta came out perfect, wasn't mushy, and it didn't stick, I also added broccoli for extra goodness.

  32. My family loved it. I also pre cooked my noodels for 5mins then add it in the last 15 mins of cooking turned out great..

  33. Maybe my crockpot is at fault, but I put uncooked chicken, raw carrots and red pepper in with the cans of soup and white wine, and cooked for 2 hours on High. Then I added everything else, and cooked for 1.5 more hours on High. The noodles were nowhere near done, so I moved the pot to the oven and so far it has cooked for 45 minutes on 375 degrees. I think another 15 minutes should do it, and I do think the taste will be great.

  34. I just made this for the first time today (found you on Pinterest) and I used wheat spaghetti, precooked it for 5--6 minutes and added it to the crockpot during the final 30 minutes of cooking and it came out GREAT!I did end up stirring about 1/2 cup of water in when I added the spaghetti, and my total cook time ended up being about 3-1/2 hours.

  35. This was a HIT at house, I will be making this again.
    ~ Thanks

  36. Hi there, I put the spaghetti in the pot dry, used angel hair, broke it in half, covered the pasta with chicken broth, just enough to cover the top of the pasta, cranked my crockpot on high, in about an hour the pasta had already cooked, i proceeded to put everything else in, stirred it up to combine, put the top on and left it on low for 2 hrs. PERFECT! It turned out great. Granted, I was home to nurse it should it need it but it worked well for me.

  37. Made this last night for dinner. I was nervous at first but it turned out good. All I was missing was some garlic bread. My husband and child enjoyed it too.

  38. I made this tonight. I put uncooked pasta. 1 cup of water instead of 1/2 cups and added 2.5 cups of Chicken broth. Cooked on hight for 3 hours. Came out perfect.

  39. I have made this a couple of times and have always loved it! Made it once with left over turkey (Thanksgiving) and it was a hit. I have always used precooked chicken and precooked noodles.

I wanted to ask if you put the uncooked noodles on the bottom of the crock pot and then everything on top or if just mixed it all up? Making this tonight and didn't want to ruin the noodles. I am going to make it just like you did but wanted to check about the noodles. Thank you for your help!

  41. I made this dish yesterday (4/5/2014) for a large family gathering and it was a HUGE hit! I doubled the recipe for my large crock pot. I cooked my chicken in garlic and onions like I always do & added pepper & Lawry's seasoning salt. I did not cook the noodles ahead of time and they turned out fine. I added the juice from my tomatoes (I used Rotel because I like a kick) and some of the mushroom juice (I added more mushrooms than the recipe calls for) along with about 1/2 cup of chicken broth over the top of everything. My noodles were at the bottom and then I poured everything over the top and gave a stir. So, sooooo good! I will definitely be making this again!
